Green Towns Initiative (GTI) is a community-based organization (CBO) legally registered under Non-Governmental section in Kenya. GTI was established in the year 2016 to promote healthy living through conservation, health and environment education and proper waste management.
Roughly, 25% of the disease burden in developing world is due to environmental factors. Unfortunately, when such diseases occur, we tend to focus much on how to cure it and leave out the root cause of such diseases. If we protect out natural resources, our rivers, streams and lakes then the risks of having water related diseases are reduced. If we create green spaces at our homesteads and in urban areas, and manage our solid waste in a safe and proper manner then we won’t be worried of air pollution and related diseases. It is our immediate surrounding and what we consume that determines our health and that of our future generation.
Therefore, GTI is involved in conservation and restoration projects including teaching kids to grow and parent trees, restoring rivers and water catchment areas as well as promoting green spaces in towns and homesteads.
Everyday we strive to support environmental conservation through education and conservation action. To get update on our activities and success visit out blog to learn more.
